Introducing the winners of the Olhausen Pool Table/Shuffleboard design class for 2018.
Congratulations to the Olhausen Pool Table/Shuffleboard design class for 2018. This is the 3rd year in a row that this class has been run by SI at Pickerington North High School in Pickerington Ohio. The majority of these kids are 9th and 10th graders in the Engineering program. This runs a full semester and starts with “shopping” designs and architecture to show a concept, then the drawings, then it is put onto the program Inventor to finally 3D models. This class is not just about designing a pool table/shuffleboard, it’s also about critical thinking, designing what has not been done before, building these designs to scale, working in teams, hearing “no” and understanding it’s not personal and public speaking as they have to have formal presentations about their work.
There are prizes, pizza etc and the hope that we can actually take a table to market where they would earn scholarship money. There were a lot of great ideas but most importantly, we as adults don’t really see what the younger generation would want to see in a pool table design, it would surprise you to listen to some of their ideas!
These are Olhausen’s future customers and pool players!
